The Blossoms – Morello Project, East Croydon, UK, Completed 2025
This series of site-specific artworks integrates poetic text and cherry blossom motifs into the architecture and landscape of The Blossoms, a major gateway development within the Morello Project in East Croydon, UK. Inspired by the area’s historical identity as a former cherry market, the work reflects local heritage through a contemporary lens.
A large-scale artwork crafted from gold anodised aluminium and steel features a delicately etched cherry tree, subtly shifting with the changing light throughout the day. A poem, designed to evoke the gentle drift of falling blossoms, weaves through the site, reinforcing a sense of movement and seasonal transition.
Sculptural seating cubes, shaped with bold pink blossom forms, create a striking entrance to the public square. Additional poetic and botanical elements—such as blossom cut-outs adorning the tree grilles—add a whimsical, immersive layer to the space.
Commissioned by Menta Regeneration in partnership with Mitsubishi Estate and Europa Capital, the residential-led development will deliver 445 new homes, including 107 affordable units. The public artwork was produced with contractor Sir Robert McAlpine and Art Projects Management Ltd and is set to launch alongside the opening of the site in late 2025.
